Kartik Research opens the first NYC store on the eastern side


For Kartik Research, the opening of the second and first store in New York is a return to the homeland, of a type-the Indian brand ready to wear while Cartic Kumra was studying economics at the University of Pennsylvania.

It was born from “Partial Fake” and “Part that does not see the letter and the textiles” from India represented in a contemporary, modern and delicious way, and the brand of Kumra is looking to change what is re -customizing the Indian craft “by taking advantage of the skills of the independent Indian population.

“New York was our biggest market from the beginning,” Kumra told WWD. “We have opened a store in Delhi last year, but this is our first important invasion of retail. When I was in the college in Felie, I was going to work on the weekend; I stayed with COLBO in the street since I was 20 years old. We were walking around them and a few other retailers throughout the city a few years ago.”

These included Saks Fifth Avenue, Selfridges, 10 Corso Como and MR. Porter and Dover Street Market in Paris, Genza, SSNSE and more-but with the launch of the new store, Kumra distributed it on its distribution in New York to focus on its consumer direct work, which is a large part of the Kartik success story. New York brand sales occur more than others on its website, as Kumra will increase the new store direct sales of the consumer from 8 percent to 35 percent next year.

The brand cultivated a follow -up worship in New York with a pop -up in Lower East Side Staple, Colbo; I have started with men’s clothes lovers and has now expanded to a more diverse demography for customers.

With the definitions looming on the horizon and many luxurious brands that the recession hit, Kumra said it is “related and the brand is not immune to economic trends.” While the brand has some traditional consumers, there is a great deal of consumer base that tends to influence the luxury customers who provide cut.

“The reason we may be more optimistic is, over the past four or five years, there has been disappointment with traditional luxury. What you see on the runway is one thing and what you see personally is completely different. People have resorted to searching for more interesting, independent and well -made clothes with a real perspective. This is the place where we found our success.”

Speaking of the recent lights in the growing Indian fashion market, Kumra said it is a market that has been “largely ignored” by the rest of the world and requires “a lot of noise that can be seen.” But making “solid products and offers in Paris” helped make room for its brand to emerge between the crowd.

It is worth noting that the brand wore celebrities over the years, including Paul Mescal, Luis Hamilton, and Samson Idris for the upcoming movie “F1” and Stephen Carrie – who bought his Kantha jacket.

The semi -finals of the LVMH 2024 award showed that the opening of the store was on the brand radar for a while now and believes that it is natural progress in the brand’s growth. “We have gone to a group of amazing retailers. It helps the brand, when you start, to be close to other brands. But at some point, you want to take ownership of the way you sell and the way you can communicate.”

The New York Store cooperated with the Mumbai-based furniture studio, AEVEAAAC, to create different pieces seen throughout the store, such as wooden straw seat and bamboo-bambling rooms-to bring customers to the world of Indian heritage and craftsmanship while maintaining its urban environment in the show.

Some AEQUO pieces and store are displayed in the store, while the other pieces are the private Kumra collected over time. A book was also presented with his latest collection in the fall of 2025, created with photographer Jeremy Evert and designer Julie Rajolia, entitled “AMDAVAD”.

Kumra said: “I was very patient to wait a year until this space is opened. The traffic on this street for the site is the best; it’s the biggest excitement block now in New York. The stores have always appeared here and there are events. There is very good energy here.”
